Walks in Tallaght
Tymon Park

The beautiful Tymon Park on the eastern edge of Tallaght has been used to create a major water feature, with four ornamental lakes. The inspiration for this unique development arose from a flooding problem and the stream was diverted to a new line, giving a wonderful opportunity for cascades and waterfalls. Bridges cross the lakes allowing access to both sides.
There are large colonies of wildfowl here, including a resident population of Mallard ducks, coot and moorhen. In 1986 the lakes were used as a recuperating station for 42 swans who had suffered after an oil spillage on the Tolka River. After their release, two swans returned to Tymon to establish a breeding territory with their first brood of seven cygnets produced in 1988. Swans are now an integral part of Tymon Park. Tymon Lane was an ancient road linking the villages of Greenhills and Balrothery and followed a winding course along the crest of the sand and gravel hills. It has been incorporated into the park as a very pleasant walking route.
Tymon Park is divided in two by the Western Parkway Motorway (M50) with pedestrian bridges linking the park. Extensive woodland planting provides much needed cover and has enhanced the many lovely walks.
Sean Walsh Memorial Park
Sean Walsh Park is the St. Stephen’s Green of Tallaght.
An oasis at the heart of a densely-populated urban area, the park provides a landscaped parkland and recreation area for residents and visitors. The Dublin Mountains form a gentle backdrop to this neighbourhood park which overlooks The Square. Ornamental formal gardens lie side by side with attractive water features such as ponds and waterfalls: extensive tree planting allows shaded areas for relaxation, while playing pitches lie close to the local community school.
The park adjoins Old Bawn Road and provides a means of crossing to The Square via a footbridge. Pedestrian paths around the ponds allow for a pleasant walks and passive recreation and this area is ideal for summer picnics.
